Organizes an Encounter-Meeting of:
journalists of the Mediterranean Network of Information and Communication of Gender of  countries in conflict of the Mediterranean
with
journalists of the XIDPIC.CAT
and with
responsible people of communication and gender of several NGOs and associations of Catalonia,

to elaborate a report with an agenda and recommendations about the gender and the informative treatment of the countries being in conflict.

Introduction:

This project is the continuation of the task pioneered with II Conference of Journalists and Communicators of the Mediterranean celebrated in Barcelona in 2007.

We, journalists and communicators, met in Barcelona in order to construct a communicative bridge that, through good practices in the information and communication of opposition to the wars, favored the way towards the peace and the respect to the human rights of the countries of the Mediterranean.

Meanwhile places where the peace has not been possible exist, the capacity to report and to communicate from a vision of gender,  from a not androcentric perspective, it is a basic need in the peaceful resolution of these conflicts.

In this Encounter appeared the Mediterranean Network of Information and Communication of Gender  where professionals of the journalism and responsible people for communication of NGOs and associations of : Catalonia and the rest of  Spain, Italy, France, Turkey, Palestina,
Israel, Jordan, Syria, Egypt, Algeria, Tunisia and Morocco have been incorporated.

We, the journalists of Catalonia, are working with these goals from 1995, in the I Encounter of Wpmen Journalists of the Mediterranean, organized by the ADPC and celebrated at the Collegiate Journalists of Barcelona.

The Conference of the last year was an impulse for this task. The creation of the Mediterranean Network of Information and Communication of Gender assures us a tool for working on both sides of the Mediterranean.

From here comes our will of participating in the Encounter in Morocco the 23th and 24th October of 2008 in Marrakech, and of presenting a report, with agenda and recommendations, that will have been worked previously in Barcelona together with journalists of an important part of the countries in conflict or that receive directly the consequences.

Workflow:

. Knowing directly the voices of journalists of these countries in conflict or who are very close to it.

. Share proposals with they and have the oportunity of make communication strategies and good practices to influence the media ‘generalists’ and make the agenda for the peace in the Mediterranean in alternative media.

.Discuss the respective perceptions and stereotypes that we live in our dynamic work.

. Make known the journalists and communicators of these countries. Make they visible.

. Share their thoughts with society, opening the debate to NGOs, associations and groups who work these issues in Catalonia and who are associated with these other groups of countries in conflict.

. Give visibility to the work of these organizations and groups.
